Japanese skaters Rizu Akama and Ginwoo Onodera topped the scoring in the street semi-finals at the Street and Park World Championships in Sharjah.

Akama scored 253.65 points with 86.42 on her first run and 84.27 and 82.96 with her two tricks at the Aljada Skate Park in the United Arab Emirates' third-most populous city.

Olympic silver medallist Rayssa Leal of Brazil ranked second in 252.98 despite an injury to her right wrist picked up in training earlier this week, and Japan's Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Momiji Nishiya notched 249.10 in third.

Chloe Covell of Australia was fourth with 246.09, followed by Brazilian duo Gabriela Mazetto and Pamela Rosa with 246.09 and 221.56 respectively.

Olympic bronze medallist Funa Nakayama of Japan and the United States' Paige Heyn were the other qualifiers for the final with 209.48 and 209.19.

Yumeka Oda of Japan, one of the seeded athletes, missed out in ninth place with 199.21.

On the men's side, Onodera led the way with 262.24, followed by the US' Olympic bronze medallist Jagger Eaton with 260.99.

Gustavo Ribeiro of Portugal was third with 255.85, followed by Japan's Sora Shirai with 250.66 and France's Aurélien Giraud with 250.05.

The US' Chris Joslin notched 249.07 to qualify in sixth, followed by Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Kelvin Hoefler of Brazil with 237.86 and Slovakia's Richard Tury with 237.38.

Jhancarlos González Ortiz of Colombia narrowly missed out with 236.60.

The World Championships in the street discipline are due to conclude tomorrow with the women's and men's finals.
