Double world champion Shane O'Neill of Australia fell on both of his attempts meaning he was a long way from the 56.43 points set by Brazilian Kelvin Hoefler, who finished in the last qualifying place.

Olympic silver medallist Hoefler was one of five Brazilian skaters that progressed.

He was joined by team-mates Giovanni Vianna, Ivan Monteiro, Eduardo Neves and Lucas Rabelo.

Quarter-finals are scheduled to take place tomorrow, followed by the semi-finals on Saturday (February 4) and the finals on Sunday (February 5).

Competition in the Park World Championships is due to start next Wednesday (February 8) and run until February 12.
