Djokovic ran out a convincing straight sets winner over Tommy Paul of the United States and will face Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, after he overcame Russian Karen Khachanov, playing as a neutral, in four sets.

Djokovic’s routine victory attracted attention off the court because of those who were and were not present on the Rod Laver Arena.

His father Srdjan Djokovic, who was filmed standing with spectators carrying the Russian flag, which featured an image of the country’s President Vladimir Putin, following his son’s win over Russian Andrey Rublev, playing as a neutral, opted to watch today’s semi-final remotely.   

Meanwhile a fan who was pictured wearing a black T-shirt with a Z symbol on it during Djokovic’s win over Rublev, was again seen inside the Rod Laver Arena for Djokovic’s victory against Paul.

This time the spectator was seen wearing a white T-shirt with the words "Djokovic, Jordan, Messi" written on it.

After speaking with security staff he was allowed to remain at the venue, as reported by The Daily Mail.

On court, Djokovic raced into a 5-1 lead in the first set before Paul, playing in his first Grand Slam semi-final, registered back-to-back breaks of the Serbian’s serve to cut the gap to 5-4.

Djokovic managed to break his opponent’s serve again to take the set 7-5, before Paul was left to rue three missed chances on break points in set two, which Djokovic claimed 6-1.

The Serbian then cruised through the third set 6-2, to reach a 33^rd Grand Slam singles final.

There he will face Tsitsipas in a repeat of the 2021 French Open final, which Djokovic won in five sets.

Tsitsipas took the first set of his match with Khachanov on a tie-break 7-6, but only after being broken in the ninth game as he looked to serve it out.

Tsitsipas then won set two 6-4, with the turning point coming in the ninth game when the Greek player won a 22 shot rally, which started a run of six consecutive points.

After registering an early break in set three, Tsitsipas looked on course for the final, but was broken as he attempted to serve out the match at 5-3, with Khachanov winning the tie-break 7-6 after two forehand winners saving match points and forcing a fourth set.

In this set Tsitsipas did not let the chance slip, breaking serve and closing out the win 6-3 to continue his quest for a maiden Grand Slam title.

Elsewhere at Melbourne Park, the women’s doubles final took place, but there was no fairytale ending to her Grand Slam career for India’s Sania Mirza, who is set to retire from tennis next month.

Playing alongside compatriot Rohan Bopanna, the duo were beaten 7-6, 6-2 by Brazilian pair Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos, the first team from their country to win a Grand Slam title.
