Chris Purdie, who served as the general team manager for Scotland at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, has been named the Chef de Mission for the country for the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.

In addition to his role at Birmingham 2022, he also acted as the lead of team services for Scotland at the Games and has been involved in three International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games.

At the Lake Placid 2023 FISU Winter World University Games, he acted as Chef de Mission for the British team, having held the post of deputy Chef de Mission at the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.

Purdie is also the head of competitions at Scottish Student Sport.

"It's a huge honour to lead Team Scotland at the Games in Trinidad and Tobago next year," said Purdie.

"To have the opportunity to work with young athletes on their performance journey is something I am extremely passionate about and there is something wonderfully unique about representing Scotland at a multi-sport Games.

"The Commonwealth Games and Youth Games are the only opportunity to do this and, having experienced it once before, I'm eager to provide a truly rich experience for both athletes competing and support staff at next year's Games."

Trinidad and Tobago is set to host the seventh edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games, which was first held in 2000 in Edinburgh.

The 2023 Games were scheduled to be held in 2021 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced its delay, and is now scheduled for August 4 to 11 this year.
