An online portal set to train 17,000 volunteers for the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games has been launched by organisers.

This provides important dates for the volunteering process, a full programme of events and news and videos.

It allows volunteer hopefuls to complete interviews and training, and track the progress of their applications.

Organisers will also be able to respond to any queries from individuals.

Applications for volunteering positions at the Games are still open to individuals who will be at least 18 years old on October 1.

Santiago 2023 has already secured 12,000 volunteers for the Games, and is targeting 17,000.

The Organising Committee's volunteering coordinator Claudio Ramos described the launch of the portal as an important milestone.

"The launch of the portal will undoubtedly set a before and after in the bonding process between the volunteering and our corporation, in addition to being a facilitator in all the remaining stages of the process," he said.

The 2023 Pan American Games are scheduled for October 20 to November 5, followed by the Parapan American Games from November 17 to 26.

Chile has never previously staged the multi-sport event.

Approximately 7,000 athletes from 41 nations are expected to compete at the Pan American Games, followed by 2,000 from 33 countries at the Parapan American Games.
