In the women's event, Georgiadou came through five rounds on her way to the final, beating Italian Giulia Arpino 15-11 in the last 16.

The world bronze medallist then eliminated Hungarian Anna Márton, the 2015 world bronze medallist, by a 15-9 score, and made the final with a 15-10 victory over world champion Misaki Emura of Japan.

In the final, she met Spain's Lucia Martin-Portugues, who defeated Olympic bronze medallist Manon Apithy-Brunet of France 15-10 in the quarter-finals and Ukraine's four-time world champion Olga Kharlan 15-14 in the semi-finals.

Georgiadou defeated Martin-Portugues 15-12 in the final for the gold, with Emura and Kharlan taking the bronze medals.

Bazadze won 15-13 over Raoul Bonah of Germany in the last 16 of the men's competition, before beating Bonah's compatriot Matyas Szabo by a convincing 15-8 score in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, he defeated 2017 world champion Andras Szatmari from Hungary 15-12 to make the final.

The world bronze medallist and European champion would meet Italian Luigi Samele in the final.

The Olympic silver medallist Samele won 15-14 against Hungarian Csanad Gemesi in the quarter-finals before making the final with a 15-13 victory against American Eli Dershwitz.

In the final, Bazadze was a comfortable winner, with the score finishing 15-9.
