The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Nordic Combined World Cups in the German resort of Klingenthal were postponed today due to "unfavourable weather conditions".

The Vogtland Arena had been due to stage a men's large hill and 10 kilometres race tomorrow and on Sunday (January 15), following on from qualification today.

A lack of snow has led to its postponement.

It is hoped that the two World Cups can be rescheduled for next Friday (January 20) until Sunday (January 22), following the cancellation of both events, in the French resort of Chaux-Neuve because of limited snow.

The FIS has expected the event to take place as planned following positive snow control tests last Friday (January 6).

The Organising Committee in Klingenthal said that "despite our own snow depot and help from the surrounding ski areas, a World Cup cannot be held under the current weather conditions".

It took forecast rainfall and high temperatures into account in making the decision.

A final ruling on whether the FIS Nordic Combined World Cups can take place in Klingenthal next weekend is expected to be made tomorrow.

Europe has recorded a mild winter, with hundreds of sites hit by record-breaking temperatures.

This has forced several winter sport resorts to temporarily close and disrupted the FIS' World Cup seasons, although nine events on the men's Nordic Combined circuit had taken place as planned until the postponement in Klingenthal.

Norway's Jarl Magnus Riiber holds the yellow bib on the men's Nordic Combined World Cup after recording four wins so far this season.
