The event saw the world’s 10 best esailors battle it out over 12 races across the F50, Laser, Far East 28r, 49er, Nacra 17, Offshore Racer, Star and J70 categories.

Kowalski, who raced under the name Alex-K RS, took the lead after race seven in the J70 class.   

Kowalski won the ninth race but struggled in the next two races and saw the gap reduced heading into the finale, where double points were available.

A third-placed finish in the final race was enough for Kowalski to take victory by nine points.

In second place overall was Britain’s Arthur Farley, racing as Farley-RS.

Farley finished strongly in races 10 and 11 to put himself in with a chance of overall victory, but finished three places behind Kowalski in the final race and was not able to overhaul his rival.

Third place overall went to the Netherlands’ Bart Lambriex, racing as Bart Lambriex, who triumphed in the final race to move from seventh to third in the overall standings.

Speaking after the race overall winner Kowalski said: "It’s amazing, because all ten players tonight were very good.

"From the first race to the last, I did not know who would win.

"It’s a big surprise and I am very happy."

World Sailing’s commercial director Scott Over added: "The growth of eSailing over the past five years has been incredible to see, and to welcome such a high-quality fleet for the first in-person final since Bermuda in 2019 shows the strength of the scene."

Action took place in front of a live crowd at the Ocean Live Park, and as well as the title, Kowalski also took home a $5,000 (£4,100/€4,600).
