Prime Minister's Park in the Saskatchewan city underwent a CAD1.5 million (£920,000/$1.1 million/€1 million) upgrade to hold the WBSC Junior Men's Softball World Championship in 2018 and has been selected to welcome one of the three groups in next year's tournament.

"After an extraordinary Men's Softball World Cup last month in New Zealand, that showcased the best of international men’s softball and broke records on our OTT platform GameTime in viewership and subscriptions, we are very excited to name Prince Albert as hosts of the next World Cup," said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari.

"Prince Albert brings a wealth of experience in hosting world class events and a strong softball community that guarantee the continued success of this event."

Prince Albert built their bid around the city's success in hosting the junior event in 2018, which generated a profit of at least CAD$150,000 (£90,000/$110,000/€100,000), with a local economic impact of approximately CAD$10 million (£6.1 million/$7.4 million/€6.9 million), including over 3,000 hotel room nights sold.

It is due to become the third Canadian city to receive the World Cup hosting rights after Saskatoon staged the 1988, 2009 and 2015 events while Whitehorse welcomed teams in 2017.

The upcoming World Cup will see an increased participation of 18 teams compete, with the sides split into three different groups in 2024.

Prince Albert will host one of these pools.

The top two teams from each group and two wild cards will then advance to the finals in 2025.
