"These are the first FISU World University Games’ hockey games since 2019, and the Organising Committee is equally as excited as the players."

Britain and the Czech Republic are set to open the women's tournament when they face off tomorrow at Maxcy Hall.

The Czech Republic is making its FISU World University Games women’s ice hockey debut, while Britain last played in 2017 in Kazakhstan's Almaty.

The final women's match is set to see Canada, runners-up in the past three tournaments, play Slovakia.

The Slovak's only medal in the women's tournament was a bronze at Erzurum 2011.

Russia, winners of six of the last seven men's tournaments, including the last three, and gold medallists in three consecutive women's events, are missing after being banned following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Following the preliminary rounds, the top four men’s and women’s teams will advance to play at the Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center.

The Arena hosted various events here during the 1980 Winter Olympics, most famously the ice hockey tournament that saw America's 4–3 victory over the Soviet Union, the game commonly referred to as the "Miracle on Ice".

In 2005, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the US victory, the Arena was named after the late Herb Brooks, who coached the American team during the 1980 Olympics.
