The Solomon Islands 2023 Pacific Games Organising Committee has secured a SBD1 million (£100,000/$120,000/€116,000) sponsorship deal with Solomon Breweries.

The collaboration makes the company the first to announce their support for the Games and has been labelled as a "bronze sponsor".

"The GOC are extremely pleased that a Solomon Island business the standing of Solomon Breweries has shown confidence in Sol2023 by becoming a Bronze Sponsor and Official Supplier to the Games," said Solomon Islands 2023 chief executive Peter Stewart.

"While there will be no beer sales within the venues, the responsible use of alcohol is an important message that the Games can assist with sending throughout the sporting community.

"We also welcome the opportunity for the exclusive use of SolBrew beer at all Sol2023 Pacific Games VIP and corporate functions, both in the lead up to and during the Games."

An official signing event was held at the company's offices.

"Despite our challenges, the Pacific Games are essentially an opportunity to celebrate other parts and aspects of Solomon Islands that we have not been able to look at in the last three years and that is our sportsmen and women and the next generation of Sports," said Solomon Breweries' corporate affairs manager Qila Tuhanuku.

Honiara is due to stage the Pacific Games between November 19 and December 2 in 2023, following a four-month delay blamed on COVID-19.

Solomon Islands has experienced difficulty in funding the Games but has received financial support from Australia, China, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Japan, and South Korea.
