The European Taekwondo Union (ETU) believes the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Sports Journalists Association (AIPS Europe) will "reinforce" media coverage of the sport after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The agreement was formally signed by ETU President Athanasios 'Sakis' Pragalos and AIPS Europe President Charles Camenzuli during the 2022 European Cadets Championships in Salini in Malta.

"I am delighted that we have reached such an agreement and that we, as Europe’s taekwondo governing body, and AIPS Europe will continue to work closely together to further promote, develop and shape the future of taekwondo across the continent," ETU secretary general Antonio Barbarino said.

"We are hoping to cooperate on joint activities which will implement the shared vision between our two organisations."

The agreement is expected to include the organisation of information seminars and conferences to help develop knowledge of the sport of taekwondo.

"This MoU is the ideal tool for the European Sport Media and for Taekwondo Europe to work together to develop and increase the awareness of the sport," Camenzuli said.

"It is the result of long lasting reciprocal support and commitment and I am glad to share the same ideals of ETU President Athanasios Pragalos as ‘together we succeed."

A working group is to be established and representatives of AIPS Europe are expected to attend competitions held in Europe.

"We are setting up new structure required to ensure that together, we will meet the challenges that sports media faces and to build a supporting network," ETU media head Effie Zikouli said.

"This can be achieved only through a collaborative and constructive plan between the two organisations."
