Approximately 100 students have attended the second edition of the Chilean Olympic Committee's (COCH) Medicine and Kinesiology in High Performance Congress.

Staged at the University for Development in the Las Condes commune of Santiago, the Congress was aimed at students detailing medical volunteering opportunities at next year's Pan American Games in the Chilean capital.

Students of the areas of medicine, kinesiology, nursing, medical technology and nutrition participated at the Congress.

Chilean hockey player Constanza Palma, who has played in 173 internationals and is a double silver medallist in the Pan American Cup, was a notable attendee.

COCH officials and staff at the University shared their medical experience of working at major events during the Congress, with practical workshops and informative spaces on Olympism and volunteering on offer for all participants.

Miguel Ángel Mujica, President of the COCH, claimed that the Congress proved a success.

"For the Chilean Olympic Committee, it is a great opportunity to be able to present to so many students of medicine, kinesiology and other careers in the health area, so that they know how they can help our athletes and athletes from all over the continent during the Pan American Games in next year and be part of a sports festival that will be unique for our country," he said.

Chile is set to host the Pan American Games for the first time from October 20 to November 5 next year, followed by the Parapan American Games from November 17 to 26.

More than 6,900 athletes are expected to compete in the Pan American Games and more than 1,900 in the Parapan American Games, with both events featuring 41 participating countries.
