The women’s singles defending champion featured in the opening match of day two on Court One, as she overcame Poland’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung 21-9, 11-21, 21-10 in Group A.

In the group’s other match, An’s conqueror from the previous day Akane Yamaguchi of Japan was defeated in her second match, as she was beaten 21-19, 21-18 by Chen Yu Fei of China.

In women’s Group B, Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei overcame Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand 22-20, 21-16.

The other home player in the group was also defeated today, with Ratchanok Intanon beaten 21-17, 24-22 by He Bing Jiao of China.

In the men’s singles event world number one and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark registered a second successive straight-games victory in Group A, overcoming Kodai Naraoka of Japan 21-5, 21-15.

Elsewhere in the group Lu Guang Zhu of China won in three games, beating HS Prannoy of India 23-21, 17-21, 21-19.

World champion Loh Yean Kew of Singapore is the headline name in men’s Group B, however he was defeated today, losing 16-21, 22-20, 21-10 to Jonatan Christie of Indonesia.

Christie saved two match points in game two before taking the decider, with the win keeping his chances of progressing from the group alive.

Also in the group, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia overcame Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 21-14, 12-21, 21-19.
