The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has paid tribute to Para athletes on International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPD) with a video celebrating "human endeavour".

The theme for this year's IDPD, observed today, is "transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world".

IDPD aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the rights and wellbeing of people with disabilities.

This year's theme is broken down into three topics.

The first, "innovation for disability inclusive development in employment", looks to discuss linkages between employment, knowledge and skills required to access employment.

A focus is also placed on how assistive technologies can increase accessibility to employment and become mainstream in the workplace.

The second dialogue will discuss innovations, practical tools and good practices to reduce inequalities in public and private sectors.

Sport is used as an exemplar case in the third topic as it is described as "a site of innovation, employment, and equity".

The IPC has been praised for its video by the likes of non-executive director in the British Paralympic Association Fred Hargreaves, the National Paralympic Committee of the Netherlands, and Billie Jean King.

"On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and every day, let's recognize the impact, strength, and resilience of those living with disabilities," the 12-time singles Grand Slam title-winning tennis player King wrote on Twitter.

"A more inclusive world leads to more opportunities for all."
