Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC) chairman Paulo Wanderley presented Hamamatsu Mayor Yasutomo Suzuki with a commemorative plaque during a visit by the Japanese group to the new BOC headquarters.

"This was a unique opportunity that the Olympic Games gave us," Suzuki told his hosts.

"This historical moment raised the interest and dedication of our youths in sports practice due to the presence of Brazilian athletes.

"We would very much like to maintain this link with the Brazilian Olympic Committee, we will always be willing to serve you and collaborate with you."

The city of Hamamatsu in Shizuoka prefecture has a Brazilian community of around 10,000 - the largest in Japan.

Some 76 Brazilian athletes used the facilities to prepare for rhythmic gymnastics, judo and table tennis.

The visits had also included sessions with local school children.

Suzuki presented BOC director general Rogério Sampaio with a letter from local youngsters in Japan thanking the BOC.

The Japanese party which included Kenji Saito Directors of Development and Sports Science, Kenji Saito media chief Paulo Conde and Consul General of Japan in Rio de Janeiro, Ken Hashiba, who were all given the opportunity to inspect the new BOC headquarters which is nearing completion.
