National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) of Thailand manager Dr Supranee Guptasa has said that the country is "ready to host big events" and are in the process of planning "a strong bid" for the 2030 Youth Olympic Games.

NSDF handles the sports budget in Thailand and works closely with the National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT), Sports Authority of Thailand and the Sports Ministry.

Guptasa, who was one of the speakers at the 2022 United Through Sports (UTS) World Youth Festival, said that budget planning for the 2030 Youth Olympics will begin after "analysing the success" of the UTS Youth Festival.

"Thailand is a very passionate sporting nation," Guptasa, who is a consultant with the NOCT, told insidethegames.

"We have hopes of securing the 2030 Youth Olympics.

"We are planning for a strong bid next year.

"We are conducting an analysis with the Sports Authority of Thailand after the 2022 UTS World Youth Festival to understand how successful it was.

"We want to know if we are in a position to be considered for a big event like the Youth Olympics."

Bangkok-Chonburi launched an official bid for the 2026 Youth Olympics but the postponement of the Dakar Games from 2022 to 2026 meant that the earliest the Asian city could host the event is in 2030.

The country is set to host the Badminton World Federation World Tour Finals in December this year after it was moved from Guangzhou in China to Bangkok due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Guptasa added that hosting the first international badminton tournament - the Thailand Open - in a COVID-19 bio bubble in 2021 has given the nation more confidence to host international sporting evets.

"During the pandemic, we hosted the Thailand Open badminton," Guptasa said.

"It was the first international badminton tournament under a bio-bubble.

"So we have hosted events under difficult circumstances, that gave us a lot of confidence.

"Now, we are going to host the BWF World Tour Finals in December at short notice.

"We are also hosting the South East Asian Games in 2025.

"So, we are ready to host big events."

Last year, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) put the nation on the non-compliance list for a lack of full implementation of the 2021 Code within its legal system.

This meant that they were not allowed to host any regional, continental or world events.

But they were removed from the list in February this year after meeting the obligations to regain compliance.

Guptasa suggested that the WADA sanction was a wake-up call for the country.

"We are also focused on doping control now," she said.

"In 2021, when WADA put us on the non-compliance list, it was a big shame for the country.

"But now we are off the list and we want to continue to develop clean sport.

"We want to show to the world that Thailand is not a cheating country."
