The opening day of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) World Cup Combat Sports saw Indonesia and Hong Kong claim the first gold medals of the competition in wushu disciplines.

Pak Long Sat from Baptist University in Hong Kong took the gold medal in the men's taijijian with a score of 9.75.

The silver medal went to Ukraine's Ivan Fediuchenko of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a score of 9.45.

Taijijian is a discipline where competitors use a sword in a martial arts demonstration.

In the women's taijiquan - often known as the martial art demonstration discipline tai chi - the gold medal went to Indonesia's Alisya Mellynar of Airlangga University with a score of 9.4.

Debbie Yeung, representing the Education University of Hong Kong, took silver with 9.3, with Ukraine's Oryna Ivanova of Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics finishing third on 9.05.
