Poland stunned the defending champions Slovenia to reach the EuroBasket 2022 semi-finals in Germany's capital Berlin, where they are set to face Olympic silver medallists France.

Mateusz Ponitka delivered an inspired performance for the Poles at the EuroBasket Arena Berlin, notching only the third triple-double at the tournament since 1995 with 26 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists.

A superb run from Poland in the second quarter built what proved to be an unassailable lead for the underdogs at 54-31.

Slovenia reduced the arrears to 58-39 at half-time, and moved to within one point at 61-60 in the third quarter.

However, Poland rallied, and went on to reach the last four for the first time since 1971 with a 90-87 victory.

Slovenian star Luka Dončić appeared to be limping, and was fouled out with three minutes of the match remaining.

Poland's reward for their upset victory is a semi-final against the Tokyo 2020 Olympics runners-up France, who required overtime to beat Italy 93-85.

Thomas Heurtel provided a crucial 20-point contribution for the French.

Poland are set to face France in the first semi-final on Friday (September 16), before hosts Germany play three-time winners Spain.

Tomorrow is a scheduled rest day at EuroBasket 2022.
