The top seeds in the men’s and women’s wheelchair singles competitions at the US Open tennis have reached the finals of their respective events after comprehensive victories.

Shingo Kunieda of Japan and Diede De Groot of the Netherlands each advanced for the loss of just three games in their last four encounters at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.

Kunieda was taking on fellow Japanese player Takuya Miki, winning 6-1, 6-2 in 1hr 20min.

The final will be a battle of the top two seeds, with Kunieda set to face Britain’s Alfie Hewett, after he overcame France’s Nicolas Peifer 6-3, 6-1.

In the women’s singles semi-final, De Groot took on compatriot and doubles partner Aniek Van Koot, running out a convincing winner 6-2, 6-1 in just 47 minutes.

De Groot will face the second seed Yui Kamiji of Japan, who was also a winner in straight sets, overcoming Jiske Griffioen of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-3.

In the wheelchair men's doubles semi-finals top seeds Hewett and his partner Gordon Reid of Britain, won 6-3, 6-3 against Chilean Alexander Cataldo and Japan's Tokito Oda.

The British pair will face the second seeds in the final, after Peifer and Spain's Martin De La Puente defeated Joachim Gerard of Belgium and Tom Egberink of the Netherlands in a match that went the distance, winning 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 in two hours.

In the women's wheelchair doubles semi-finals, top seeds De Groot and Van Koot, who had played against each other in the singles earlier in the day, teamed up to great effect, defeating Manami Tanaka of Japan and Zhenzhen Zhu of China for the loss of just a single game, 6-0, 6-1.

De Groot and Van Koot will take on the second seeds in the final, after Kamiji and Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa earned a walkover victory against Griffioen and Momoko Ohtani of Japan.

The finalists in the wheelchair quad singles event were also confirmed today, with top seed Niels Vink of the Netherlands a convincing 6-1, 6-1 winner over Donald Ramphadi of South Africa.

Vink will face second seed and compatriot Sam Schroder in the final, after the Dutchman overcame David Wagner of the United States 6-0, 7-6.

Doubles finals are due to be the focus of wheelchair competitions tomorrow, with champions in the men's, women's and quad categories due to be crowned.
