Following a 3-0 victory over Ukraine, England finished first, being one of four nations to secure spots in the women's tournament next year.

However due to the competition only featuring National Olympic Committees, they would need to be formally selected by the British Olympic Association (BOA).

England Beach Soccer expressed its pride in the team qualifying again for the tournament, while calling for more recognition to help players.

"We are delighted with the tournament victory in Catania and with the qualification to the ANOC Games next summer in Bali," Luke Kerr, director of England Beach Soccer, told insidethegames.

"The team led by Steve Black and supported by the Board of Directors have worked hard to raise funds in order to just even be there so to win it is testament to the hard work put in on and off the sand by all.

"It is another step forward to helping us raise the profile of the game in the United Kingdom and towards being recognised by FA and or Sport England's much needed funding channels as we continue to sit in no man's lands between FA governance and Sport England's direction on standards."

England Beach Soccer confirmed to insidethegames that the England team would represent Britain, following the same selection process for the 2019 World Beach Games in Doha.

The BOA will contact the Football Association (FA) to provide clearance to use the beach soccer team to compete in Bali.

This ruling is similar to that used in curling at the Winter Olympic Games, where Scotland's best team is picked, because the nation is far ahead of the rest of the Home Nations in the world rankings.

England qualified from Europe alongside Ukraine, Spain and Italy in the women's tournament.

Spain won the men's tournament and qualified with Portugal, Ukraine, Switzerland and Italy.
