Chinese Taipei are the first-ever Baseball5 Asia Cup champions and have qualified for the World Cup along with Japan and South Korea.

Chinese Taipei went undefeated at the event in Kuala Lumpur, beating Hong Kong in the semi-finals today before defeating Japan in the final.

The victors won the best-of-three championship game 3-2, 2-5, 12-9

The top three teams earned World Cup spots and South Korea secured the last of those by beating Hong Kong in the bronze-medal match.

"We selected this team from 64 university players comprising baseball and softball players who attended trials and selected the team of eight players to attend a 10-day camp before coming here," Chinese Taipei manager and head coach Kuo Yung-Chin said.

"Under the circumstances, we have done well very and this team certainly has great future.

"It is great to be number one in Asia for Baseball5."

Eleven of the 12 places at this year's Baseball5 World Cup have now been secured, with just one wildcard yet to be granted.

Australia, France, Lithuana, Kenya, South Africa, Venezuela, Cuba and hosts Mexico are the other to have qualified.

The World Cup is due to be played from November 7 to 13 in Mexico city.

Baseball5 is a pitcher-free, mixed-gender discipline which requires only a rubber ball to play and no bat, so is designed to bring baseball to previously inaccessible areas.

Any playing surface can be used and hitting is done by hand.

The Baseball5 Asia Cup was played indoors.

Baseball5 is on the programme for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
