Britain’s Charlotte Fry edged out home favourite Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour to claim gold at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Championships in Herning.

The Olympic bronze medallist topped the dressage standings thanks to an impressive total display of 90.954 with her horse, Glamourdale.

This was only marginally better than Laudrup-Dufour’s 89.411 after the Dane rode Vamos Amigos.

The Netherlands' Dinja van Liere and her horse Hermes finished with bronze after accumulating 86.900.

In the vaulting pas-de-deux event, German duo Chiara Congia and Justin van Gerven combined for gold while compatriots Diana Harwardt and Peter Künne finished second.

The gold medallists notched 8.863 in the first round, marginally better than Harwardt and Künne who made 8.692.

With the pressure on, the favourites did not bow to the pressure and performed a striking performance to claim the title.

Rebecca Greggio and Davide Zanella were judged to be the third best in the competition having earned the bronze medal with a tally of 8.178.

Meanwhile, Sweden put together a complete display to lead the team jumping event.

Henrik von Eckermann and Peder Fredricson delivered perfect rounds before Jens Fredricsons rounded out the competition for the Swedes.

France are placed just behind their rivals as Belgium, who almost saw all four riders produced perfect rounds, trail in third.

France's Julien Epaillard was the fastest in the individual event, recording 97.08 seconds.

The competition is due to continue tomorrow.
