The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has remembered athletes and officials who died in the last year with a moment of silence at the General Assembly in Birmingham.

The tribute to track cyclist John Paul, a world junior champion who competed at the Glasgow 2014 Games, was particularly poignant, as he died at the age of only 28.

A champion from the Commonwealth Games 60 years ago headed a long list of others who had passed away.

Percy Hobson, who died in January this year aged 69, was one of two indigenous athletes to win gold at the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth.

He set a new Commonwealth Games record to win gold in the men's high jump.

The demise of his compatriot John Landy was also marked by the meeting.

Landy had won silver at the Vancouver 1954 Games after a famous and memorable duel with England’s Roger Bannister in the mile.

Both men had broken the world record that year.

The last surviving Australian athlete from the Sydney 1938 Games was also remembered on her passing aged 102.

Enid Pate had competed in the women’s high jump where she finished 10th.

Canada's Don Arnold, who won Olympic gold in 1956 and Commonwealth rowing gold in 1958, was also part of the tribute.

Games officials additionally remembered another Canadian, Angela Bailey, who won three successive silver medals in the women’s 4x100 metres relay.

Two Scottish medallists from the 1974 Games in Christchurch were included in tributes.

They were full bore rifle silver medallist Colin McEachran and Morag McGlashan, who won bronze in the 4x100m medley relay.

The roll of those remembered also included Canadian bowler Leona Peterson, Scotland's 1998 cyclist Richard Moore, St Helena swimming coach Johnny Dillon, former Commonwealth Sport Canada President Claude Bennett, ex-Commonwealth Games Australia President Les Martyn and former Tanzania Olympic Committee President Raphael Agustino Kubaga.

Former Malaysia Olympic Council secretary Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi, one-time Bermuda Olympic Association President John Hoskins and Belize official Courtney Young were also commemorated.
