The 2018 runners-up South Africa met Botswana at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the Moroccan capital where they prevailed 1-0.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 80^th minute as substitute Nthabiseng Majiya pounced on a Nomvula Kgoale's saved effort and slotted it into the empty goal.

The win meant that Banyana Banyana topped group C after taking three wins from three.

Despite the loss, Botswana's previous win against Burundi meant that they progressed as one of the best third-place finishers.

Elsewhere at the Stade Moulay Hassan, also in Rabat, Nigeria inflicted a third defeat on Burundi to eliminate them while the Super Falcons' second place saw them advance.

Rasheedat Ajibade was in unstoppable form on the right wing as her side ran out 4-0 winners.

It took 25 minutes to find the opener but Ajibade calmly slotted home a penalty after being brought down by Burundi goalkeeper Jeanine Irakoze.

Just three minutes later, the Atlético de Madrid player caused havoc in the penalty area after whipping a dangerous cross in from deep.

A goalmouth scramble ensued before Peace Efih eventually hit the back of the net.

Nigeria scored a third after 29 minutes courtesy of Uchenna Kanu who capitalised on another cross from Ajibade.

Kanu then completed the rout shortly after half-time.

Ajibade won the ball on the edge of the Burundi area, burst down the right flank before finding her team-mate with a pinpoint pass who guided it beyond Irakoze on the half volley.

The win set up a quarter-final clash with Cameroon in Casablanca while South Africa are set to meet Tunisia and Botswana face the hosts in Rabat.

The knock-out round is set to begin on July 13 with the winners of the quarter-finals qualifying for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
