Placide Bagabo, the director of the African Taekwondo Championships, has suggested that the majority of requirements for the tournament are in place for the competition to start in four days in Rwanda.

At least 40 countries have confirmed they are scheduled to compete during the event in the capital city of Kigali, with the director confident of the organisation so far.

Previously 21 nations were registered, but this figure has since gone up.

"I would say that the preparations are at 85 per cent right now, all the basic things have been covered and the rest is just a matter of time," Bagabo told Times Sport.

"We have identified the participating countries, as well as the number of athletes who will come.

"We are prepared for them, their accommodations and competition venue are ready."

Nevertheless, the ex-President of the Rwandan Taekwondo Federation also admitted a lack of sponsors has impacted their financials.

"The budget that we expected to use is different to what is available, but it is no cause for alarm," added Bagabo.

The African Taekwondo Championships is due to be staged between July 13 and 17.
