World number two Daniil Medvedev and Greek fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas have progressed from their second-round matches at the French Open, ensuring the main contenders suffered no upsets today at Roland Garros.

Medvedev, who is competing neutrally as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 over Serbian Laslo Đjere, setting up a third round tie against a second Serbian, 28th seed Miomir Kecmanović.

Kecmanović defeated Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 to join him in round three.

Tsitsipas was taken the distance in round one and was made to work hard in his second round encounter against Zdeněk Kolář from the Czech Republic, with the score finishing 6-3, 7-6 (10-8), 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (9-7).

His next opponent is Mikael Ymer from Sweden, who won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 against British 29th seed Dan Evans.

Medvedev's team-mate and seventh seed Andrey Rublev defeated Argentine Federico Delbonis 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to set up a third-round tie against Cristian Garin of Chile, who won 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 over Ilya Ivashka of Belarus, also competing as a neutral.

Italian 11th seed Jannik Sinner won 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 against Roberto Carballés Baena of Spain, meaning he faces American Mackenzie McDonald who defeated Georgian 22nd seed Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3, 6-1, 6-4.

French wildcard Gilles Simon is into round three with a 7-5, 6-1, 7-6 victory over Steve Johnson of the United States, meaning he faces Croatian 20th seed Marin Čilić, who came from a set down to beat Marton Fucsovics of Hungary 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.

Norwegian eighth seed Casper Ruud defeated Finnish player Emil Ruusuvuori 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to set up a tie against Italian 32nd seed Lorenzo Sonego, who defeated Joao Sousa 7-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Polish 12th seed Hubert Hurkacz won convincingly against Italian Marco Cecchinato 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 and is next in action against Belgian David Goffin who came from a set down to defeat American 24th seed Frances Tiafoe 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Denmark's Holger Rune won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 over Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland, and now meets Hugo Gaston of France, a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 victor against Argentina's Pedro Cachin.
