Serbia's capital Belgrade is due to host the first stage of the 2022 World Rowing Cup, with reigning men's singles sculls Olympic champion Stefanos Ntouskos among the stars set to take part.

The Greek lines-up in a highly competitive boat class, which also includes reigning world and European champion Oliver Zeidler of Germany, who finished on the podium at all three World Rowing Cups last season, at the Ada Ciganlija Regatta course situated on Sava Lake 

Under-23 world champion Emil Neykov of Bulgaria and Tokyo 2020 double sculls silver medallist Melvin Twellaar of The Netherlands are likely to be other strong contenders in the men's single sculls.

The women's sculls entry list features Austria's Magdalena Lobnig, bronze medallist at last year's Olympics.

China’s Chen Yunxia is competing in the single event having taken gold in the quadruple sculls at Tokyo 2020.

Other medallists from the Games last year in different classes who have entered the single sculls include Dutch pair Lisa Scheenaard and Karolien Florijn and China's Wang Zifeng.

Men's pair Olympic champion brothers Martin and Valent Sinković of Croatia are returning to the double sculls, an event which they won the Olympic gold medal at Rio 2016.

The Netherlands' Stef Broenink and Koen Metsemakers, silver medallists at Tokyo 2020 in the double and quadruple sculls respectively, are likely to be among their main rivals.

In the women's double sculls, Olympic bronze medallist Roos de Jong has teamed up with Laila Youssifou for The Netherlands, although their compatriots Ymjke Clevering and Veronique Meester look set to provide a stern challenge having taken silver in the women's four at Tokyo 2020.

Men's and women's races are also scheduled in the pair, four, lightweight double sculls, quadruple sculls, eight and lightweight single sculls categories.

Four Para rowing races are additionally due to be held at the World Rowing Cup in Belgrade.

Australia's Tokyo 2020 Paralympics silver medallist Erik Horrie headlines the PR1 men's singles sculls entry list, while the PR2 women's singles sculls race is set to feature reigning world champion Kathryn Ross of Australia and PR2 mixed double scull Paralympic, world and European champion Lauren Rowles of Britain.

The other races at the event in Belgrade are the PR2 mixed double sculls and PR3 mixed coxed four.

Competition is due to begin with heats and repechage rounds tomorrow, with semi-finals scheduled for Saturday (May 28) and finals set to be staged on Saturday and Sunday (may 29).

The three-stage World Rowing Cup is due to continue in Poznan from June 17 to 19 before concluding in Lucerne from July 8 to 10.

This precedes the World Rowing Championships in Račice in September, which is due to be the first edition of the event since 2019.
