Confectionery giant Hershey has announced a deal with the 2028 Olympic and Paralympics in Los Angeles to become the first "domestic food partner" and will also continue to sponsor the United States Olympic and Paralympic teams up to the 2028 Games.

Hershey, manufacturers of chocolate and cocoa products for more than 125 years, the US Olympic and Paralympic teams since Rio 2016. 

"We're especially proud to have a renowned American brand like Hershey partner with the LA28 Games to co-create an experience that empowers fans and athletes and builds on the excellence of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement," Dave Mingey, head of partnership management and activation at United States Olympic and Paralympic Properties (USOPP) said.

"Hershey has been a champion of Team USA's athletes and their iconic successes since 2015,and we're thrilled they'll continue alongside us on the road to the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

The deal includes support of the US teams at the 2024 Summer and 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris and Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo, respectively.

The renewed agreement builds on the partnership and support Hershey provided to Team USA athletes who competed in Rio 2016, Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020. 

Hershey will also utilise NBCUniversal's Olympic and Paralympic media platforms to support the partnerships through 2028.

The Pennsylvania-based American multinational company, founded in 1894, is one of the largest chocolate manufacturers in the world and also makes baked products, such as cookies and cakes, and sells beverages like milkshakes, and many more that are produced globally. 

"We're proud that our iconic brands will continue to be a part of celebrations and the moments of goodness for both athletes and fans supporting Team USA through the LA28 Games," The Hershey Company vice-president of confection Vero Villasenor said.

"Our employees, partners and consumers who love our brands, all share a passion and pride in celebrating our US Olympic and Paralympic athletes,"

The Games are set to return to United States soil for the first time since the Winter Olympic and Paralympics at Salt Lake City 20 years ago.

Los Angeles previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984, but has never before hosted the Paralympics.
