Number one seeds Coll and Gohar seek to win maiden World Championships in Cairo

Number one seeds Paul Coll and Nouran Gohar are set to challenge to win their maiden Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Championships singles titles in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

Coll achieved silver in Doha in 2019 and bronze in Chicago last year.

Egypt’s Gohar claimed bronze in her nation’s capital two years ago and she did one better last time out in the American city.

Coll’s first round matchup is scheduled to see the New Zealander face the hosts’ wildcard player Seif Shenawy.

An eagle eye will be set upon world number two Ali Farag throughout the tournament as he goes about defending his title in his home country.

He will not be the only home favourite with former champions Mohamed El Shorbagy and Tarek Momen anticipated to compete for gold once again.

El Shorbagy is due to face Hungary’s Farkas Balázs and Momen is expected to play Malaysia's Eain Yow Ng in the first round.

Gohar enters the women’s event in excellent form having won six of her last eight competitions on the PSA World Tour.

She has been drawn against France’s Énora Villard.

Five-time champion Nour El Sherbini is due to take to the court to defend her trophy.

Egypt’s world number two has claimed three consecutive world titles.

If the pair were to meet, El Sherbini will feel confident of knocking out her toughest opponent on paper after putting together a record of 14 wins and five losses against El Shorbagy on the PSA World Tour.

The first and second round fixtures and half of the last 16 matches are set to be held at the Club S Allegria with the Egyptian National Museum of Civilisation scheduled as the venue for the other half of last 16 matches and all remaining games.
