United States dominated the poomsae categories, which took centre stage on the final day of the Pan American Taekwondo Championships in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

Competition took place at the Barceló Bávaro Hotel across individual, pairs and team poomsae events, with the US claiming golds in four women’s and four men’s individual events, plus two pairs categories.

In the individual women’s G4 discipline, gold in the under-60 category went to Thoa Nguyen of the United States.

Silver went to Rommy Hubner Thorne of Peru with bronze won by Eleanor Thompson of the United States.

There was only one competitor in the under-65 category, with victory going to Christine Hislop of the US.

In the over-65 category, Erica Linthorst of the US claimed gold, with Canadians taking the remaining two medals as Rachel Belzil won silver and Claude Champagne took bronze.

The under-50 category saw more American success with gold going to Kathy Do, silver to Peru’s Marina Garcia Belaunde Velarde, and bronze to Yen Chou of the US.

In the under-40 category Jessica Mari Ayre of the United States took gold, with silver going to Ana Patricia Pena of the Dominican Republic.

Lui Lois Fong of Canada and Monica Garcia of Colombia took the bronze medals.

In the under-30 category Alejandra Higuero of Guatemala took gold, with Karyn Real of the United States winning silver.

The over-17 category saw Higueros claim a second gold, with silver won by Kyra Chan of the US, and bronze won by Arelis Medina of Puerto Rico.

Two bronze medals were awarded in this category, and went to Arelis Medina of Puerto Rico and Kaitlyn Marie of the United States.

In the individual men’s G4 discipline, gold went to Angelito Ong of the US in the men’s under-60 category, with silver won by Jeehoon Sohn of Canada.   

There was only one competitor in the under-65 category, with victory going to Joseph Coughlin of the US.

In the over-65 category, gold went to Marcelo Prado of Ecuador, with silver going to Jacques Le Guerrier of Canada.

The men’s under-50 category saw gold won by Diego Roberto Diaz of Argentina, with silver going to Cheng Dong Wang of the US.

In the under-40 category Minki Seong of the United States claimed gold, with Argentina’s Ruben Guagliarell winning silver.

Bronze medals went to Andres Jaramillo of Colombia and Kevin Lu of the United States.

In the under-30 category Ryan Real of the United States won gold, from Hugo Del Castillo of Peru, who claimed silver.

Bronze medals went to Elian Ortega Vela of Nicaragua and Alex Arruda of Brazil.

In the over-17 category, gold went to Campos Causes Andee Joel of Ecuador, with silver won by Elian Ortega Velasquez of Nicaragua and bronze going to Geovanny Morales of Guatemala.

In the mixed pairs G4 disciplines, gold went to Ecuador in the over-17 freestyle, with silver won by Cuba and bronze to Guatemala.

In the over-30 category, gold went to the United States, with silver going to Colombia.

In the under-30 category, victory went to the US, with silver won by Costa Rica and bronze going to Peru.

In the mixed team over-17 only one team entered, with Peru claiming victory.
