England celebrated a pair of victories over Germany as the men's and women's International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League continued in Mönchengladbach.

The nations are meeting in four matches split over two days at the Warsteiner HockeyPark, with England winning the first two contests.

Germany twice took the lead in the women’s Pro League match, with Hannah Gablac breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute against England.

The hosts' advantage lasted for one minute, as Grace Balsdon equalised through a penalty corner.

Germany secured a half-time lead when Nike Lorenz scored with a penalty stroke in the 29th minute.

England responded immediately after the break with Darcy Bourne finding the net after an Alexandra Malzer cross.

Tessa Howard gave England the lead for the first time in the match in the 47th minute, before Germany’s captain Sonja Zimmermann drew her side level from a penalty corner.

England were able to celebrate a 4-3 victory when Bourne scored her second of the contest three minutes from full-time.

"I am absolutely thrilled," Bourne said.

"We had a downhill start but we came together really well.

"We are a side that are just coming together now."

Germany remain fourth in the Pro League standings on 13 points, recording three wins and one shootout success after their nine matches to date.

England are fifth in the standings on eight points, but have played four matches less than Germany.

England will hope to add to their two wins and one shootout triumph when they face Germany in the second of back-to-back matches tomorrow.

The men’s match produced only one goal, with Nick Bandurak’s 12th minute effort proving the difference between the two teams.

Germany were unable to find a way past England’s goalkeeper Oliver Payne, who preserved his side’s narrow advantage.

The result leaves Germany third in the men’s Pro League standings with 17 points from their 11 matches.

Germany are just one point clear of the Netherlands, who have played five matches less.

England are seventh in the standings with 10 points from seven matches, after three wins, one shootout defeat and three losses.

Both nations will seek to improve their respective positions tomorrow when the two teams meet again.
