The Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) has established an Education Committee, tasked with coordinating education programmes in operation throughout the Americas.

Hong Ki Kim from Venezuela has been appointed the first chair of the PATU Education Committee, with American Raymond Hsu vice-chair.

Five other members have been appointed to the panel, with Costa Rican official Katherine Alvarado to act as an advisor.

Argentina's Laura López Rodríguez, Peruvian Nellys Landrau, Alyssa Allen from the US, Mexican Victor Manuel Mendoza and Barbara Marian from Canada are the remaining members.

"Something that I have always maintained is that we cannot advance in any aspect without the appropriate education," PATU President Juan Manuel López Delgado said.

"Education is essential in all aspects of life and our organisation cannot be the exception.

"I am confident that the Education Committee will be of vital importance in the growth of PATU."

The Education Committee initially has a two-year term, after which members will be able to seek re-election.

It will also be asked to take the lead in reviewing the PATU education programme and recommending any updates.
