Rivas, who is also the coach of 2016 Olympic champion Carolina Marin, will have to manage his time between the two positions, after signing a part-time contract with FFBaD until the next Olympics. 

"I am very happy to join the FFBaD with a real development strategy," Rivas said.

"The pool of very good players in France is very interesting.

"I come with my very high-level experience.

"I will provide a framework with a method that has already proven itself."

According to Yohan Penel, who was elected new President of the FFBaD in 2020 for four years to come, the federation made this recruitment "to add internationally-recognised badminton expertise" to its coaching board members in place.

"This strong choice by the FFBaD confirms a real ambition in terms of sports performance at the highest international level," he said.

"High performance is based on many ingredients that the new team will deploy.

"The culture of performance associated with the culture of badminton will allow us to take new steps.

"These recruitments are accompanied by a strong financial investment from the federation to impact the entire sector and put the odds on our side."

FFBaD has also welcomed the former national technical director of American football and ice sports, Thierry Soler to bring expert knowledge as performance director.

"I arrive in a very good federation with my totally new look at this discipline," said Soler.

"My role will be to make the system even more efficient by relying on competent men and women.

"The Paris Games - Olympic and Paralympic - are a wonderful opportunity to be in the spotlight."

The arrival of the new experts could help the team to intensify their performance and hopefully achieve better results in major events as France has never won an Olympic badminton medal until now.

The FFBaD wishes to develop new training strategies for the team by bringing an outside perspective.

Dutch swimming coach Jacco Verhaeren, German rowing expert Jurgen Grobler and South Korean archery coach Oh Seon-Tek were also hired to help take France to the top of the podium.
