University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand (UTSNZ) has announced a new six-point focused strategic plan to develop the organisation’s growth during the next four years.

The UTSNZ’s scheme revolves around leadership, events, partnerships, pathways, profile, and student well-being.

Through their leadership, the UTSNZ has pledged to advocate and influence tertiary sport delivery through their expertise and insight.

It hopes to have more tertiary students participating at their events and to form partnerships to support the growth of tertiary sport.

The organisation refers to pathways as participation and performance contributing to engagement and experience, whilst profile relates to improving their visibility, purpose, and credibility so that participation, partnerships, and tertiary institution increases.

The UTSNZ also believes their events and opportunities will enhance the well-being of New Zealand tertiary students.

Each focus point has a set of goals, such as ensuring existing and future students are knowledgeable on sporting benefits and to re-enter or commerce sport participation.

Two other goals include guaranteeing sport opportunities for tertiary students, and making sure tertiary institutions' profile and reputation are positively impacted through the sporting opportunities they offer.

"UTSNZ now stands in a place of great foundation and potential," Sarah Anderson, executive director of UTSNZ, said.

"There is a credible and reputable inter-tertiary events programme in place, as well as support for UTSNZ to continue to take a stronger leadership and advocacy role to ensure the full potential of tertiary sport in New Zealand is realised.

"Our goals are ambitious and will only be achieved if students receive value from the sporting opportunities offered to them.

"This will require UTSNZ and the tertiary and sport sectors to continue to work collaboratively to ensure quality opportunities are provided.

"It is the strategic coming together of the tertiary and sports sectors that will maximise the value for New Zealand tertiary students on campus, in competition and in our communities."
