British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) has formed a new year-long partnership Amazon which it is hoped can lead to student-athletes earning employment.

The organisations will promote Amazon-run events, such as Amazon Discover, to provide students with guidance on what it is like to work at Amazon and what it is looking for in applications for its graduate scheme.

"We are very excited to be partnering with a huge global brand such as Amazon," said BUCS chief executive Vince Mayne.

"Sport provides the opportunity for students to develop skills that many top employers look for when recruiting, and we are pleased to have Amazon on board to create a new pathway for engaging talented students.

"I look forward to seeing the activity across the partnership and to see a strong BUCS cohort employed by Amazon over the next few years."

Studies have found that there is a correlation between playing sport at university and achieving higher academic results.

This has been credited to sport's role in developing communication, time-management and leadership skills, as well as confidence and resilience.

Paul Sobers, Campus attraction and engagement Manager at Amazon, said: "We recognise BUCS is a central pillar to so many students' university experience, providing exceptional opportunities on and off the field.

"We believe sport significantly enhances student employability, with BUCS providing a great platform for Amazon to engage with some of the most talented student leaders across the UK."

BUCS announced a similar agreement with banking group BNP Paribas to boost career opportunities last August.
