South Africa's men's team extended their World Rugby Sevens Series winning streak to 27 matches en route to the semi-finals in Málaga.

The Blitzboks have won the last five Series events, and made sure they topped Pool A today by thrashing a young England side 43-0 at the Estadio Ciudad de Málag.

They faced Pool D runners-up Canada in the quarter-finals, and were frustrated for much of the match against resilient opposition, who could themselves have taken the lead only to have a try disallowed for a knock-on.

Substitute Ryan Oosthuizen found the breakthrough in the 11th minute, before Justin Geduld wrapped up the victory in the dying embers of the match.

Both tries were converted which meant the final scoreline read 14-0.

They will face third seeds Australia, who they beat in the final to win the second Series tournament in Dubai last month, in tomorrow's semi-finals.

Australia struggled through Pool B, finishing second ahead of invitational side Germany only on points difference.

After yesterday's draw against the Germans, Australian were beaten 10-5 by pool winners Ireland.

However, they came good in the quarter-finals as Corey Toole, Josh Turner, Dietrich Roache, and Maurice Longbottom all crossed the whitewash in a 26-7 win against Pool C winners the United States.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medallists Argentina, who are second in the Series standings, will take on England in the other semi-final.

Argentina were beaten 24-17 by the US which consigned them to second in Pool C, but two tries in the first half from the 2021 World Rugby Men’s Sevens player of the year Marcos Moneta set them on their way in a last eight tie against Ireland.

Luciano González struck twice in the second half in an eventual 29-5 victory, while Hayden Hyde and Blake Boyland were on the scoresheet in England's 12-5 win against Pool D's first-placed side France.

In the Women's Sevens Series, Poland were one of the main stories as a stunning hat-trick from Małgorzata Kołdej helped them beat Canada 17-14 to clinch second place in Pool B.

However, their run was halted by fourth seeds Russia in the quarter-finals with Alena Tiron scoring three times in a 26-5 triumph.

An Australian side bidding for a third consecutive Series gold await them in the semi-finals.

Australia thrashed hosts Spain 20-0 to make sure of top spot in Pool A before Maddison Levi scored twice in a 33-10 quarter-final victory over Canada.

That set a Women's Series record of 15 consecutive wins.

France set up a clash with the US in the other semi-final tomorrow, with the nations winning Pools C and B respectively.

The French came from behind to beat Ireland 33-5 in the quarter-finals, while the Americans saw off England 22-17.

The Series event is due to conclude tomorrow with the semi-finals and finals, as well as the other placing matches.
