Simen Tiller ensured the absence of Jarl Magnus Riiber would not affect Norway's chances of a medal in Klingenthal, with the 26-year-old finishing first in qualification on the latest leg of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Combined World Cup.

Riiber is missing again in Germany - after withdrawing in Val di Fiemme with a back injury - but Tiller will start as one of the favourites tomorrow, having finished with a top score of 138.2 points.

Germany's Terence Weber was 0.1 behind in second, with the top five all being a fair distance in front of the rest.

Franz-Josef Rehrl of Austria, Estonian Kristjan Ilves and another Austrian Mario Seidl were the rest of the top performers.

Norway's Sebastian Oestvold, Manuel Faisst of Germany, Tomas Portyk of Czech Republic, Akito Watabe of Japan and Germany's Eric Frenzel completed the top 10 qualifiers.

A total of 50 of the 58 entrants are set to compete in the finals.

The last winner in Val di Fiemme Vinzenz Geiger of Germany finished 18th, while the other winner in Italy, young Austrian Johannes Lamparter qualified 11th.
