The International University Sports Federation (FISU) America's Advisory Council of Rectors has held its first virtual meeting since its election in November.

FISU America elected rectors from across the continent to the Council at its General Assembly, with each of the officials serving a two-year term.

The advisory body aims to strengthen links between the continental governing body of university sport and institutions across the America.

Alim Maluf Neto, the Brazilian President of FISU America, holds the same role on the Council, and concluded the opening meeting with an upbeat message.

"It has been an honour to preside over this meeting and to find that people so important to the institutional life of their institutions are interested in promoting university sports in their communities throughout the continent," said Alim.

The Executive Committee of FISU America is responsible for the administration of the organisation and for enforcing the General Assembly's decisions.

It is comprised of President Alim, Mexican vice-president Manuel Merodio, America Alvarado from Honduras as secretary general, Argentina's Ines Gomes as treasurer, and three advisers in Alfredo Inciarte of Uruguay, Colombia's Fred Asprilla and Venezuelan Leonardo Morales.
