The International Cycling Union Cyclo-cross World Cup is set to be contested on snow for the first time as the Val di Sole in Italy gears up to host the ninth stop of the season.

It is being held away from typically muddy conditions in a bid to show the sport is suitable for inclusion in the Winter Olympic Games.

Belgium's Eli Iserbyt has been in stellar form since the season began on October 10.

He is searching for his third consecutive win after triumphs in Koksijde and Besançon,

Iserbyt currently sits top of the season standings on 245 points, while his compatriot Toon Aerts occupies second with 176 points and Dutchman Lars van der Haar rounds out the top three on 175 points.

In the women's division, The Netherlands currently holds all three podium places.

Lucinda Brand's three victories, including at the last event in Besançon, have helped her to amass 252 points.

Denise Betsema's 223 sees her in second, and Puck Pieterse is in third on 182 points.

The track at Val di Sole is located at the Nordic ski centre in Vermiglio at an altitude of 1,261 metres

Last week's Cyclo-cross World Cup race in Antwerp in Belgium was cancelled as a result of challenges posed by COVID-19.
