Norway’s Aleksander Aamodt Kilde earned his first International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup triumph since returning from injury by winning the second super-G race in Beaver Creek.

Kilde suffered disappointment when he skied out in yesterday’s opening super-G competition on the Birds of Prey course.

The 2019-2020 overall World Cup champion mastered the course today by achieving a run of 1min 10.26sec.

The effort proved 0.03sec faster than Switzerland's Marco Odermatt, who added a second-place result to his victory yesterday.

Travis Ganong secured a top-three finish at a home event, with the American ending 0.37 behind the winner.

The result saw Kilde top the podium for the first time since winning super-G and downhill races at Val Gardena in Italy last December.

Kilde saw his World Cup title defence and World Championship hopes come to an abrupt end last January, after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in training.

The Norwegian's seventh World Cup race win of his career was his first at Beaver Creek, having placed third in the super-G in 2018 and second in 2019.

Reigning Olympic champion Matthias Mayer and Vincent Kriechmayr missed out on the podium places today.

The Austrian duo finished in times of 1:11.18 and 1:11.21 to complete the top five.

Last year’s overall World Cup champion Alexis Pinturault of France placed sixth in 1:11.24.

With both super-G events completed in Beaver Creek, attention now turns to the two downhill races.

A second downhill race was added to programme after last week’s race at Lake Louise in Canada was moved due to heavy snowfall.
