The event is scheduled to begin tomorrow and conclude on December 12.

More than 125 athletes have entered the World Cup at the Canadian venue, which includes racing in biathlon and cross-country.

"We have an excellent track record of bringing World Cup Cross-Country Ski events to Canmore, having held five International Ski Federation World Cups and two Para Nordic Skiing World Cups since the 2005 Alberta Centennial World Cup," said Norbert Meier, events chair for the Alberta World Cup Society.

"Our facilities continue to be among the best in the world and we appreciate the hard work done by the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park staff working with our event team to achieve the highest international standard of hosting excellence."

World Para Snow Sports said the Alberta World Cup Society "has worked diligently with its stakeholders and the local, provincial, and federal health authority to create a comprehensive COVID-19 risk management plan" for the event.

Among the athletes set to compete in Canmore is Italy's Giuseppe Romele, a former Para swimmer who turned to Nordic skiing after being left off his country's team for the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

"Being able to participate in the next Winter Paralympics means that the transition from the water has been successful," Romele said. 

"As I always say, from water to snow."
