Four-time individual world champion Tina Hermann of Germany broke the track record as she claimed her first victory of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup season in Altenberg.

Hermann clocked a combined time of 1min 55.36sec, including a record-breaking 57.52sec in her second run, to clinch an impressive win at the German venue.

The 29-year-old finished 0.31 clear of Russia's Alina Tararychenkova, the junior European champion, while Austria's Janine Flock took third in 1:55.73.

Germany's world junior champion Hannah Neise was second after the opening run but ended 0.04 adrift of a place on the podium in fourth.

Dutch slider Kimberley Bos is the new leader on the overall standings following a sixth-place finish.

Bos leapfrogged Olympic bronze medallist Elena Nikitina, after the Russian was seventh, and Tararychenkova.

The Dutch athlete has 596 points, two clear of Tararychenkova and 10 ahead of Nikitina.

Axel Jungk of Germany clinched his first World Cup victory in more than two years as he topped the podium in the men's event.

Jungk secured the gold medal in a time of 1:51.71, edging out world champion and compatriot Christopher Grotheer by 0.11 - despite the German breaking the track record by clocking 55.77.

Defending World Cup champion and six-time world champion Martins Dukurs of Latvia finished third in 1:52.16.

Grotheer remains the overall leader on 635 points, 34 in front of Jungk.
