France's double Olympic gold medallist Clarisse Agbegnenou is among the nominees for the 2021 International Judo Federation (IJF) Awards.

The 29-year-old is in the running for female judoka of the year after a superb campaign which included the Olympic under-63 kilograms title at Tokyo 2020.

Agbegnenou was also part of the France line-up which won the first Olympic mixed team title, and she claimed her fifth world title in Budapest in June.

Other nominees for the women's award include Kosovo's Olympic under-48kg champion Distria Krasniqi and Japan's winner in the under-52kg, Uta Abe.

Germany's Anna Maria Wagner and Canada's Jessica Klimkait, who won world titles in the under-78kg and under-57kg respectively, are also nominated.

Both won Olympic bronze medals in Tokyo.

The contenders for male judoka of the year include Japan's Hifumi Abe, the sister of Uta who won Olympic gold in the under-66kg class during the same session as his sister's triumph.

Three world champions complete the list, including Georgia's under-73kg winner Lasha Shavdatuashvili who added silver in Tokyo.

Portugal's Jorge Fonseca, the under-100kg champion in Budapest, and Germany's under-81kg gold medallist Matthias Casse complete the list of contenders.
