The European Curling Championships was staged against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic as cases continue to surge in Norway.

Yesterday, Norway reported 1,721 new COVID-19 infections - 251 more than the figure registered on the same day last week.

Travel restrictions have now been increased in the Scandinavian nation in a bid to stop the spread of the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

Scotland's Bruce Mouat and Eve Muirhead won the respective men's and women's gold medals at the European Curling Championships which finished on Saturday (November 27).

Mouat's rink clinched the title with a 8-5 victory over Sweden, while Muirhead skipped her team to a 7-5 win against the same nation as Scotland enjoyed a golden double.
