The Chinese pair swept aside Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto and Hina Hayata in a one-sided final at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Wang and Sun won 11-2, 11-5, 11-8 to ensure the world mixed doubles crown remained in Chinese hands after Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen topped the podium at the last World Championships in Budapest in 2019.

They had reached the final by defeating top seeds Lin Yun-ju and Cheng I-ching of Chinese Taipei 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9.

Harimoto and Hayata beat the combined Chinese and United States pairing of Lin Gaoyuan and Lily Zhang 11-9, 11-1, 6-11, 8-11, 11-2 in their semi-final.

World number one Fan Zhendong of China is due to take on 19-year-old rising Swedish star Truls Moregard in the men's singles final.

Fan overcame compatriot Liang Jingkun 11-5, 11-4, 11-9, 8-11, 13-11 to maintain his pursuit of a first world singles title.

Standing in the Chinese player's way is Moregard, who stunned German veteran Timo Boll after coming from two games down to clinch a battling 8-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8, 11-5 victory.

The women's singles final will be an all-Chinese affair as Olympic silver medallist Sun Yingsha plays Wang Manyu.

Sun proved too strong for Wang Yidi as she recorded a comprehensive 11-8, 3-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-8 win, while Wang ousted world number one Chen Meng 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-13, 11-9, 11-8.

Finals are scheduled to take place on the last day of the tournament tomorrow.
