Japan's men solidified their position atop the standings with a resounding 12-0 demolition of Saudi Arabia.

The tie was stopped after the sixth end as the Saudis conceded when they realised the lead was insurmountable.

Skip Kim Chang-min led South Korea to a straightforward victory over Kazakhstan which also saw the latter retire after the sixth end with the score 9-1.

South Korea had earlier dispatched Hong Kong 11-5.

Prior to their evening match, Kazakhstan beat Saudi Arabia 12-6 to go joint third along with Chinese Taipei, who demolished Qatar 11-4.

In the final game of the session, Hong Kong beat Qatar 8-5.

The game was neck-and-neck until a third-end blowout which saw Hong Kong score three unanswered points.

The gold medallists will earn a place in the next World Men’s Curling Championship, while the silver and bronze medallists will secure places at the World Qualification Event 2022.

The deciding pool-stage match-ups take place tomorrow with Japan playing Qatar, South Korea taking on Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan meeting Hong Kong.

In the women's event, Japan beat Hong Kong 11-5 before cruising past Kazakhstan 7-2.

Meanwhile South Korea also beat Kazakhstan by a five-point margin, with a 9-4 scoreline.

Tomorrow will see the conclusion of group-stage play as Kazakhstan take on Hong Kong in the morning before the latter then play South Korea.

In the women’s tournament, the gold and silver medallists will earn places in the World Women’s Curling Championship, being held in Prince George in Canada in 2022.

The bronze medallists and fourth-placed finishers will secure their places in the World Qualification Event 2022, being held in Lohja in Finland.
