The gala was held at the Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre, with organisers titling the event "Stay Tuned for 2021 FISU World University Games".

A total of 2,700 musical pieces were submitted for the competition, with a judging panel narrowing the shortlist down to 20.

The 20 selected songs were performed at the concert by singers, local artists and university students.

Chengdu 2021 also produced a drone display for the event.

"I am delighted to see that people from across the world are working together to stage a wonderful Games for the young people," said Leonz Eder, International University Sports Federation President via a video link.

"I am also delighted to see that musicians from around the world have composed 2,723 beautiful songs for the Games, bonding the world's youth together through music.

"I am looking forward to the wonderful sparks between the youth from all over the world at the city of Chengdu."

Organisers reported in July that in excess of five million votes had been cast in the competition to decide official songs for the multi-sport event.

Songs are set to be used during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of next year’s Games, as well as the Torch Relay and competitions.

The concert was reportedly watched by over 100 universities in China via the Organising Committee website.

Nearly 150 networks were also claimed to have watched the event.

Chengdu 2021 was among several sporting events to have been posted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event is now scheduled to take place from June 26 to July 7 in 2022.

Eighteen sports are on the programme for the Games, which will be the third in China after the Summer Universiades in Beijing and Shenzhen in 2001 and 2011.
