Ostrava's RT Torax Arena will stage a Para ice hockey warm-up event for the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics, with four nations set to be represented at the International Para Hockey (IPH) Cup scheduled for December.

The Czech city has hosted the last two editions of the World Para Ice Hockey Championships A-Pool, with the United States beating Canada in the final in 2019 and back in June this year.

The US have won a record five gold medals at the World Championships and the last three titles at the Paralympic Games.

Daniel Brennan, the manager of the American team, is excited about taking part in December's competition.

"When we found out that it is possible to participate in the international IPH Cup, we did not hesitate for a moment and took the opportunity to come to the tournament," he said.

"There is a special place for the Czech Republic in our hearts, the local people, Ostrava, and its great organisational team."

The US and Canada are set to open the IPH Cup on December 12, a match that will be followed by a clash between the other two participants in hosts Czech Republic and Russia.

The Russian name, flag and anthem have been banned from World Championship, Olympic and Paralympic events for two years due to sanctions imposed on the country in relation to the "cover-up of the cover-up" of the manipulation of data at the Moscow Laboratory.

Its "neutral" athletes competed at June's World Championships under the Russian Paralympic Committee banner, securing bronze by beating South Korea, and will do so again at Beijing 2022.

Czech Republic finished fifth at the World Championships, earning a place at Beijing 2022.

Irena Saskova, the head of the IPH Cup, said the city's experience of hosting major events made it well suited to hosting this competition.

"Thanks to our great organisational team, we can not only do successful and big events such as the World Championships but also other projects and tournaments," Saskova said.

A double round-robin will be held to decide the winner of the IPH Cup with teams facing each other twice between December 12 and 19.

Hosts China and South Korea are the two other teams set to take part in the ice hockey tournament at Beijing 2022, with the final two berths to be decided at the World Para Ice Hockey Paralympic Qualification Tournament in Germany, scheduled for November 26 to December 1.

The Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games are scheduled for March 4 to 13.
