The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) has invited athletes to attend online educational training sessions later this month, focusing on how to prevent injuries and improve performance.

There has been an increased emphasis on online training in sport, prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and FIAS has organised sessions in collaboration with ComplexCore since January this year.

ComplexCore is a brand which "offers a holistic approach to the training of the core, upper body and lower body".

It "combines the fields of sports medicine, sports science, physiotherapy, and training," and has experience working with sports including football, Formula One and judo, and athletes with a range of needs.

More than 700 sambo coaches and athletes have attended the online events so far, and FIAS has arranged for two more to be held on November 23.

These will include a focus on "upper body stability, flexibility and mobility," and those interested can register for the webinars held seven hours apart through the FIAS website.

"FIAS sees this collaboration as opportunity for all its members to enhance their knowledge and prepare safe environment on field of play by reduce risks of athlete injury," the global governing body commented.

The Uzbek capital Tashkent is due to host the World Sambo Championships next week, starting on Friday (November 12) and concluding on Sunday (November 14).

Sambo was provisionally recognised by the International Olympic Committee in 2018, and earned full recognition at its Session held before Tokyo 2020.
